NC QSO Party 2015

Spent the afternoon yesterday playing in the North Carolina QSO Party and finished up with 49 contacts (including 2 bonus stations and 1 bonus county) and 40 multipliers. Like last year, it was all on 40m. There were a few very faint stations that I could hear on 20m, but none clear enough to work.

Haven’t worked out my final score yet (over 4000 according to N1MM+), but it easily topped last year’s total. Had a lot of fun playing in the contest and it was nice getting back to the radio.

ARRL Centennial QSO Party results

The ARRL Centennial QSO Party wrapped up yesterday. From what I’ve read, it was a very popular event and did a lot to promote radio activity. I know I had a really good time participating in it and trying to work as many of the W1AW/p stations as I could. My enthusiasm kind of lagged towards the last few months of the year as I got distracted by other things, but it was still cool seeing people tweet about their CQP contacts and progress.

As of today, I’ve got 4325 points, 449 QSOs, and 83 contacts with W1AW/p stations. There’s supposed to be some re-scoring taking place later, so that might change once all the logs are submitted and re-scored.

Great idea ARRL!

NAQP 2014

Spent about 4 hours playing in the North America QSO Party yesterday. Was just doing some casual tuning around, working a few stations and listening to some of the pileups. Spent most of my time tuning around 20m and 40m. Wasn’t hearing much of anything up on 10m or 15m by the time I got on the radio.

While I was tuning around I also managed to find and work W1AW/5 (OK) on 20m and W100AW/4 in AL on 40m. That was the first W100AW station I had found.

My stats from last night, according to N1MM. Not a whole lot of contacts, but managed a a couple of good ones into OR and CA on 20m.

SC QSO Party 2013 results

Saw that the SC QSO Party results for 2013 were posted a little while ago. A record year for logs submitted, QSOs made and counties activated (all but 2 SC counties were activated).

My 30 contacts and 360 points were good enough to get me 3rd place in the single-op low power category. Woohoo!

The 2014 SC QSO party happens during the weekend I’m back in Edmonton, so I’ll be missing it this year. Next time though.

Juggling QSO parties

There were a bunch of QSO parties happening this weekend: MI, ND, NE and ON along with the ARRL Rookie Roundup (SSB). I didn’t have a whole lot of time to spend playing on the radio this weekend, but I did spend a few hours juggling log files tuning around for QSO party contacts. Caught handful of MI stations and a few ON stations, but didn’t hear any ND stations and only a couple very faint NE stations.

Tuned around for a little bit during the last half of the Rookie Roundup, but didn’t hear too many stations playing. Found four stations wandering around 20m. This will be my last year as a “Rookie”, so I figured I might as well take part in the Rookie Roundups while I can.
