CQ WW 2015 log check

The log check for the 2015 CQ WW contest landed in my email a few days ago. Only one busted QSO due to NIL (Not In Log). Not bad, although 0 would be better. That brought me down to 108 contacts and a final score of 24119.

Looking forward to being back on the air in time for the next CQ WW.

CQWW 2015

Spent a few hours playing in the 2015 CQ WW contest. Didn’t play nearly as long as I did a couple years ago.

10m was pretty active, and that’s where I ended up spending most of my time tuning around. 10m was good for getting to EU early in the day, and then into South America mid to late afternoon. Late afternoon/early evening when 10m started fading out was when I started hearing stations across the Pacific. Grabbed a few contacts on 20m when 10m died out, and snagged a contact on 40m toward the end of the contest just to cover that end of the spectrum.

Even though the number of QSOs and my score didn’t match what I did in 2013, still had a few good highlights this year.

  • JA7OWD (Japan) on 10m
  • VK2GGC (Australia) on 10m
  • KL7RA (Alaska) on 20m
  • TF2LL (Iceland) on 20m
  • KG4EM (Guantanamo Bay) on 20m

109 QSOs across 3 bands this year. I’m happy with that.

 Band QSOs Pts ZN Cty

CQ WW 2013 results

Final scores for the CQ WW 2013 contest are available and the 60 828 points I racked up in the Single Op Low Power All Band category got me #819 in the world, #280 in North America and #49 in the US 4th call area. With the Rookie overlay, it puts me at #55 in the world, #19 in North America and #4 in the US 4th call area.

For my first big contest effort, I’m pretty pleased with that.

CQ WW 2013 log check

The CQ WW log check report for my submission dropped into my mailbox last night and it looks like i’ve got a few busted QSOs. Ended up with 177 contacts and 60 828 points (down from the 185 QSOs and 70 716 points in my initial submission). Turns out there’s also a point penalty for QSOs that aren’t in the other person’s log, or incorrectly copied call signs. 4 of my QSOs got dropped for not being in the other contact’s log, which is kind of disappointing because I know at least two of them were clearly copied by both sides (at least I thought so anyway). Another 4 QSOs got dropped because I didn’t copy the call sign correctly (either typo’d or heard incorrectly). Rats.

On the other side, 2 stations didn’t copy my call sign correctly, and 3 got the exchange wrong.

I like these log check reports. Gives me some things to keep in mind for the next contest.

CQWW 2013 raw scores

The raw scores (pre-log checking) for the 2013 CQ WW contest are now available.

My claimed score of 70716 (had someone notify me that I didn’t appear in his log…must have made a typo or something entering it) was high enough to give me a rank of 856 out of 2020 in the Single-Op Low-Power All-Band category for the world and 290 out of 651 in North America.

Seems acceptable to me. The top 46 call signs in this category scored 1M+ points and it’s not until #693 where the points drop below 100k.

If CQ WPX is any indication, I expect log checking process will take about 5-6 months and then the final scores will be released.
